Some CDs hit you the first time you take a listen to them; sometimes the instant you put it in, you know it's a hit!   The debut CD by Nyee Moses is not like that.  Alas, it is only   upon subsequent listenings that the beautifully arranged songs begin to jump out, and the listener treks into Nyee's world of music.   Nyee Moses is filled with conceptually good songs traversing realms of pop, jazz, neo-soul, and world music.  Actually, this CD should come with instructions to listen to it multiple times, because it really did get better with each new play.

The principal drawback to Nyee's debut lies in what sounds like slightly dated production.  Still, the disc's saving grace, despite the throwback quality of the songs, is that, in most instances they are well-written, and again well-arranged, and have a high likeability factor.   'Vanilla' is a somewhat corny song, and shows the worst of what's on this CD.  But consecutive songs 'Between Us,' 'No Limits,' and 'Love is a Lion,' as well as 'Acacia Tree' and 'The Journey,' are solid cuts that make the album overall a solid listen.

While this CD overall is a good product, it will appeal most to listeners who like their music in a standsfieldian (as in Lisa) vein. While it's hard to imagine Nyee's music getting any major airplay, there is without a doubt an audience waiting for this emerging artist, even if she has to win them one coffee shop at a time.    Recommended for boutiques, art galleries, hair salons, etc.
