Jamaican-born singer/songwriter Sparlha Swa brings a number of influences to her debut album.  The easiest vocal comparison is Sade, but her musical sensibilities more closely resemble Tracy Chapman, and she does both proud on well written, interesting songs like "Sister, Sister," "Go Slow" and the excellent opening cut, "Love Addiction."  Her laid back, acoustic blend of folk, soul and world music should appeal to both college students and folks looking for intelligent, adult music.  And while some of the material on In the Distance meanders a bit, overall it is an earnest and appealing performance by a talented young performer.
