More About The Orange Soul Sheet

Over the past several years there has been a new music movement building.  Those artists, media persons, retail outlets and fans of the movement are very passionate about its output as well as of its existence.  They gather on the internet, they gather at clubs and locations like The Temple Bar in Santa Monica California, The Apache and Sugar Hill in Atlanta, World Café in Philadelphia, SOB's  and Joe's Pub in Manhattan, Excursions Live in Cleveland, Frank's in Brooklyn and a cadre of other locations.  They listen to music programs hosted by people like Jodine's Corner in Atlanta, or James Lewis on WTCC in Springfield, Massachusetts, Garth Trinidad on KCRW in Santa Monica, Marc Copeland on WFDU in Teaneck, New Jersey, Terry Bello's Soul Lounge syndicated radio program and others.  They venture to internet stations like Rhythm Flow, Neo Soul Café, Iam4radio, cyberspaceradio, 4dasoul and others.  The audience buys music from places like Bush Baby in Brooklyn, Dusty Groove and Doctor Wax in Chicago, Kemp Mill in Washington, D.C., Dimensions in Music in Baltimore, Moods and Ear Wax in Atlanta, CD Baby on the internet, Serious Sounds in Houston, Soul Brothers in London, Midnight in Los Angeles and a host of other outlets.

The movement has brought forth artists such as Ledisi, N Dambi, Fertile Ground, Kem, Donnie, Gordon Chambers, Angela Johnson, Sound Doctrine, Brown Baby Girl, Soulive, Eric Darius, Julie Dexter, Anthony David, Amp Fidler, Conya Doss and others who have brought forth some of the best most engaging music of recent years.

The movement of which we speak is the independent nu soul and nu jazz movement.  It is a movement that the mainstream media tries to act as if it doesn't exist.  But it does in fact exist!

This is an introduction to The Orange Soul SheetThe Orange Soul Sheet will be reaching backwards in the simple tradition of information tip sheets gone by such as Jack The Rapper, Mickey's Turntable, and Impact.  We will strive to be a basic but vital information sheet.  Our desire is to help further the cause of the independent nu soul and nu jazz scenes by putting for information to retailers, radio shows, artists, independent music business folks and anyone else who is a supporter of the scene.

The Orange Soul Sheet is published twice a month on the first and fifteenth of each month.  Each issue will have information on some current releases, forthcoming releases and an independent spirited music chart (one for soul-R&B, one for jazz).  The charts will be compiled from the lists provide by about 40 retailers and key independent-minded radio programs across the country.  Each of the contributing retail outlets will receive The Orange Soul Sheet free of charge.  Advertising can be purchased at very reasonable price levels.

We look forward to communication with you.  We also look forward to working with you to turn the Orange Soul out there to GOLD!!!

    Peace,

    Kevin Harewood
