Rhonda Clark

Rhonda Clark was part of an emergent group of strong female R&B singers in the late 80s who seemed to dominate the charts. The Flint, Michigan native signed with Tabu Records and immediately hit the top 10 with the Jam-Lewis produced “State of Attraction” and the associated album Between Friends

That began a nice string of both critical and chart success for Clark, with follow up hits “Stay Here, Stay Near,” “Must Be Real Love” and a wonderful cover of Luther Ingram’s “(If Loving You Is Wrong) I Don’t Want to Be Right.”

While the hits slowed after Clark's first two albums, she continued to record sporadically, always showing both a keen sense of melody and a powerful, Gospel-influenced voice. After a decade out of the studio, in 2022 she issued the independently released single “Sick Love,” working with former Ca$hflow keyboardist Simeo Overall. It was a welcome return for a talented singer, who was still sounding fantastic.
