We’ve been following singer, songwriter and bass guitarist Tedi “Son of Pearl” Robinson for a few years now. He’s a man who is firmly standing in 2021, but with a clear sense of the history of R&B. And that history often seeps into his tough-to-categorize music.

Tedi’s latest gives a healthy dose of the “B” in R&B, where as his alter ego T Bluesy, he provides a southern soul-inspired jam that has us bobbing our heads. It's a style the he calls MellowFunkIsm, "where the funk is always mellow and the rhythm is the ism."

“Friday Night Blues” is a mellow funky tale of a man who is feeling the loneliness of longing for a woman he can’t have. The blues permeate the song, as he confesses, “I don’t want nobody else and I don’t want nobody to have you.”

The song is a great look for Son of Pearl, and SoulTrackers should feel this one. It is our newest Song of the Month. Check it out below.
