SoulTracks 10 Gems: Tinashe

November 5, 2020 — Welcome back to 10 Gems, our series featuring 10-song, single-artist playlists that we think may especially appeal to SoulTrackers. The focus here is not on track position or “hits,” although some are included; rather, it’s all about quality, atmospherics, groove and feel.

We feature this week Tinashe, an artist whom we have previously described as a “triple threat” — she can sing, write and dance with the best of them. We have featured Tinashe’s music from her superb 2014 debut album Aquarius, through her most recent mixtape, Nightride, as well as her latest, first independent full-length album, Songs For You. Her music is a intoxicating mix of confessional alt-R&B and dance music, often exuberant and never dull. She is just as skilled delivering a nuanced, delicate vocal over a slow jam as she is at belting a full-throated anthem inviting you to bust a move. Enjoy.
