(September 27, 2021) In a year that has given us too many deaths of artists we love, it somehow feels even more painful when someone this young passes. And tonight we’re sad to report the death of singer, songwriter and producer supreme, Andrea Martin, at age 49. Notice was posted on social media by Martin’s longtime writing partner, Ivan Matias. No cause of death was disclosed.

A 1990 graduate of LaGuardia Performing Arts High School, Martin was a prodigious writer and performer, who gained notoriety as of the great songwriter of the 90s, often co-writing with Matias.

“Don’t Let Go” by En Vogue, “You’re The One” by SWV, Toni Braxton’s “I Love Me Some Him,” Melanie Fiona’s #1 smash “It Kills Me” and Angie Stone’s “Wish I Didn’t Miss You” were just some of Martin’s hit compositions. Her most recent notable songwriting charter was Fantasia’s “Lose To Win.”

Martin also had her own recording career, landing late 90s hits with “Share The Love” and “Let Me Return The Favor,” while also providing backup vocals for other artists.

Ivan Matias told us, "We are all special in some way, but Andrea Martin was extraordinarily special. Her spirit was infused into each lyric & melody she blessed us with. Our connection was a divine union. We went to school together & had no idea that soon after, we'd be brought together as partners, co-writers & friends for life. She brought out the best in me & everyone she worked with. We laughed, cried, fought & loved fiercely. She was a blessing to everyone around her in ways no one will ever know. She taught me about life, love, loyalty & of course music. Her musical genius lives on in the songs she contributed to the soundtrack of our lives."

Ivan's beautiful words describe an incredible human being who just happened to also be an incredible talent. This news will continue to stun fans and friends for awhile, and we will share in the many prayers going out to Andrea’s family for this tragic loss.
