Soul Music...Italian Style

If there is any question as to whether Soul Music is a worldwide phenomenon, then check out the "Soul Corner" at Caffe' Maurizio in Ancona, Italy.  Our new friends Giovanni Ceccati and Daniele Domenella (whose brother, Davide, is a popular DJ) have a long history in the area, but when they opened Caffe' Maurizio in early 2008, the two music lovers decided to convert the coffee shop into a soul museum, complete with their autographed pictures of such artists as George Benson, Al Jarreau, Gloria Gaynor and Patti Labelle.  And other classic soul artists who had never stepped foot in the caffe' (such as the Stylistics and the Spinners) pitched in, sending them photos, reviews, etc.  And of course, we got into the action, mailing them pictures of many of our "new school" favorites such as April Hill and PJ Morton.

Now Giovanni and Daniele are taking their soul music theme it to the next level.  On July 5th they held their first soul music party at the cafe (a tribute to Barry White) and they are planning to begin having live shows there.

So, if you're traveling anywhere near Ancona, you HAVE to check out this great new cafe and its soul-loving crew.
