Famed drummer and bandleader Chico Hamilton, who worked with a "who's who" of jazz greats over an incredible lifetime of music, has died at age 92.  Hamilton served as a drummer and singer in many bands before breaking out as a leader in the mid 50s, first of a trio (drums, bass and piano) and later a quintet. It was as a quintet leader that he reached his greatest fame, recording some of the most influential jazz albums of the 1950s and 60s.

Hamilton would go on to record over 50 albums, continuing to be prolific even as he reached his 90s. And he remained popular - even revered - by the two generations of jazz artists who followed him. He will be missed.
