R.I.P. Chuck Weldon of The Paradons

    (December 9, 2018) They were together for only a very brief time, but in that short period, The Paradons created a song that left a lasting impression on listeners around the world. We are sad to inform SoulTrackers that group co-founder Chuck Weldon has died.

    The Paradons, consisting of Weldon, West Tyler, Bill Meyers, William Powers, Edward Scott and Walter Gibson, were formed in Bakersfield, California in the late 50s, and their smooth stylings won for them a recording contract with Milestone Records. Out of that recording session came the 1960 smash hit “Diamonds and Pearls,” which landed in the Top 20 Pop and Top 30 Soul charts.

    The Paradons had trouble repeating the success of “Diamonds and Pearls,” and soon broke up. Versions of the group have been re-formed over the yearsm and "Diamonds and Pearls" has been covered by other artists.
