(February 5, 2014) In conjunction with the announcement of a forthcoming biography of the late great David Ruffin, the Ruffin family has announced that on Wednesday February 26, 2014 The Official David Ruffin Website – established and facilitated by The Estate of David Ruffin – will launch athttp://www.davidruffin.net

The biography promises to shed some new light on Ruffin who sang lead on some of the most memorable recordings by The Temptations. His eldest daughter Cheryl Ruffin says, “The book will reveal some truths that many never knew about my father through the eyes of family members and close friends – like how he loved to cook and eat; his love for my mother Sandra Ruffin and how they talked about getting back together before he died.” The book will also reveal how the death of his childhood friend – civil rights activist James Chaney who was murdered in 1964 – deeply affected him. Chaney was mercilessly killed in Mississippi (near Ruffin’s then segregated home town) along with two other activists; their remains were not located until 44 days later. The estate is also in talks now of developing the book into a stage play once it’s released.

David Ruffin was ranked by Billboard Magazine as one of the world’s greatest singers of all time. As principal lead singer of The Temptations he left an indelible mark on songs like “My Girl,” “Ain’t Too Proud To Beg,” and “I Wish It Would Rain.” Along with the group he was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1989. He was later inducted into the Mississippi Hall of Fame. In 2013 he and fellow Temptations received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement award.  Ruffin was also inducted into the newly-established Rhythm & Blues Music Hall of Fame with The Temptations, and individually as a solo artist.

In celebration of the 50th year since the release of “My Girl” in December 1964, the family is planning a “My Girl” Day Celebration in the City of Detroit.

The new website will have a Facebook link for the petition drive to have Ruffin inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist.
