Hey SoulTrackers. We received notice today from a group in Detroit that is fundraising to pay tribute to the late, great Marv Johnson. Here is their note:

We are John & CJ Milroy from Detroit, Michigan.

Our goal is to provide a headstone for Motown pioneer, Marv Johnson, a native Detroiter, whose grave is currently unmarked in Woodlawn Cemetery here in Detroit.

We are pleased to be wrapping up a successful campaign that secured a similar memorial for Motown drummer, Uriel Jones.  That headstone will be in place this fall at Woodlawn, as well.

Marv Johnson was an early Motown singer and instrumentalist and the first artist on the fledgling Tamla label.

His string of hits included "Come to Me", a song co-written with Berry Gordy himself.  Mr. Johnson performed right up until the time of his death in 1993. He also continued to work in the business office of Motown Records up until 1971.

The memorial bench that has been selected will cost $3,770.  Eight hundred dollars of this sum with be paid for with surplus funds from our previous Uriel Jones campaign. We would like $1000 to be donated by the community here in Detroit.  We are seeking the rest from this Indiegogo campaign.

It is our hope to have the bench in place by May 16th of next year, ground permitting, to commemorate the 20th anniversary of his passing.
