Billboard Magazine reported today that singer/songwriter/producer Ne-Yo will be leaving Def Jam to join Motown Records as a Senior Vice President of A&R, playing a key creative role at the label. The legendary Motown label, which is currently a division of Universal Republic, has suffered for several years, struggling with both its rich legacy and its lack of contemporary identity. Universal appears to be determined to provide a new life to Motown as a leading R&B label, and the signing of Ne-Yo could be a good step.
