Robb's picks: The Best of 2020 so far

June 10, 2020 — Now that we're approaching the end of June, it’s time once again for my annual best of the year “so far” playlist. This year especially, when many of us have been quarantining at home for months, with every day much like that which preceded it, I imagine there are SoulTrackers who may be jonesing for a new playlist.

Those who regularly check this site may recognize that some of the tracks have been previously featured in First Listen or other articles. 90 percent of the playlist is in the sweet spot of R&B/soul, with the balance from artists who brush up against that genre but are decidedly in another groove. Especially notable is the appearance twice on the playlist of the versatile artist Leon Bridges, who has lent his soulful vocals to interesting tracks by country and Americana artists. The tracks are not ranked or placed in any particular order, but were I forced at gunpoint to pick only one to take with me to a desert island, it would be “Fade Away” by Lucky Daye. My hope is that you’ll discover here some tracks which you may have missed or artists whom you don’t normally follow. Enjoy!
