Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees dies at age 62

Robin Gibb, one-third of the legendary musical trio the Bee Gees, has died at age 62 after a long battle with colon and liver cancer.  Gibb established for himself a permanent place in rock, soul and pop history with his role in the emergence of two popular music eras: the 60s British invasion and the late 70s disco scene. In the late 70s, the Bee Gees became the most popular act in the world for their role in the soundtrack for the movie, Saturday Night Fever and the international #1 hits, "How Deep is Your Love," "Stayin' Alive" and "Night Fever."

Earlier this year Gibb and his son RJ released The Titanic Requiem, an album commemorating the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. It was a mostly classical album that featured one song that Robin sang, the beautiful "Don't Cry Alone," which is shown below.

The Gibb family has sadly suffered prior young deaths: Younger brother Andy, a popular solo artist, died in 1988 at age 30.  And Bee Gees member, Maurice, died suddenly and unexpectedly at a Florida hospital in 2003. The Bee Gees retired as a group following Maurice's death.
