Celebrating 45 successful years and backed by $60 million in recent improvements, Summerfest has grown from a humble Oktoberfest party to the ultimate festival experience for concertgoers. This year’s attendees will enjoy more than 800 acts — from platinum-selling touring artists to flourishing emerging bands, in every genre imaginable — performing on 11 permanent stages across the 75-acre lakefront.

A festival is only as good as its food, however, and Summerfest has become known for its first-rate fare. More than 40 restaurant stands offer Milwaukee-area favorites like Saz’s barbeque, Mader’s German nachos and Sil’s Mini-Donuts, as well as spaghetti, fajitas and just about anything deep-fried. Miller Lite, the official beer of Summerfest, will offer a small-batch brew made exclusively for this year’s festival.

To get a better view of Henry Maier Festival Park – or to just rest their legs — Summerfest attendees can enjoy chairlift rides across the grounds. Paddleboating on Lake Michigan is another favorite attraction. For the shopping-inclined, four marketplaces offer unique artwork, apparel, jewelry and home accessories. A full-day lineup of family-friendly events includes art exhibitions, children's music showcases and skydiving shows. And the bathrooms at Summerfest? Real ones, in actual buildings.

Summerfest kicks off with fireworks on opening night, a display so epic that in years past it's been heard from across the Great Lake. It's a fitting overture for an event that's come to be known — and rightly so — as "The World's Largest Music Festival."
