(December 12, 2018) One of our favorite all-time movies about music, The Five Heartbeats, is heading for Broadway in a new stage adaptation, according to Deadline Hollywood. The Robert Townsend 1991 movie told the compelling story of a fictional soul vocal group, loosely based on The Dells (who consulted on the film), and was an anomaly in Hollywood at the time, but achieved near cult status over the years.

The stageplay will "tell a similar story with music that people know from the movie, but there is a composer, Grammy Award winner, a guy who has won some big awards who already said he will write an original song for us," Townsend revealed.

The iconic movie also has begat the 2018 documentary, Making the Five Heartbeats, which has been playing in a few major cities.

Given our love for the original movie, we’re rooting for this stage adaptation and hope it travels to all the cities where SoulTrackers are based. More coming as we hear it…
