Trumpeter Tyrone "Ty G." Griffin is one of those artists who have seemingly worked with everybody over a 30 plus year career in professional music.  He served in the studio as an engineer with people like Freddie Hubbard and Joni Mitchell. He was a trumpeter and background singer for the Brothers Johnson before hooking up with Lakeside . He also worked as a session musician with too many artists to name. Ty G. comes to the forefront on Fire Storm, his new album. Actually, Fire Storm is more like a quiet storm. The record sports 10 tracks ideally suited for intimate moments for two. As a trumpeter, Ty G. provides a performance that is a step above what some expect from contemporary jazz. His solo work on these 10 tracks finds the balance between creativity and accessibility.

Most of the tracks are original, but album also includes an impassioned cover of the late Freddie Hubbard's "Red Clay." Ty G.'s Fire Storm might be something to put on your playlist for the time after you've done whatever you plan on doing this New Year's Eve.
