Dave Hollister found fame during the 1990s as one-fourth of the Platinum-selling R&B quartet BLACKstreet before going on to a solo career. Hollister, cousin of singers K-Ci and JoJo Haley, Calvin Richardson & Fantasia Barrino, began recording as a guest vocalist on tracks such as 2Pac's "Brenda's Got A Baby."

His next big move was when he was signed to Teddy Riley's R&B group BLACKstreet in 1994. He worked with the group on their first album and then left the group to pursue his own solo career. He was signed to DreamWorks Records and in 1999 released his first album, Ghetto Hymns. The album went gold on the strength of the hit single, "My Favorite Girl."

Hollister's follow-up album, Chicago '85... The Movie, also went gold and spawned the hit "One Woman Man." For his third effort, Hollister moved to Motown Records, but the album, Things In the Game Done Changed, faired poorly. He returned to DreamWorks for Real Talk in 2003.

In 2006, Hollister made a significant change, signing with the GospoCentric label and releasing The Book of David: Vol. 1 The Transition, his first gospel album and one filled with autobiographical lyrics. It received substantial critical acclaim. He followed up in 2008 with the equally strong Witness Protection.

Hollister has continued to record successfully, most recently having a moderate hit with his album The MANuscript in 2016
