Derrick Pryce is the head of Atlanta based KeboMusic. Pryce is a Canadian by birth who moved to Atlanta to be a part of that city's burgeoning soul scene. He's worked as a producer, songwriter and musician for hire. Pryce has music that he plans to release next year through his label. In the meantime, he used KeboMusic to release an EP call The Soul Prototype. The five track EP features music from Atlanta , Washington and New York based indie soul artists. The goal was to give these artists some shine, and to create some buzz around KeboMusic in anticipation of the release of Pryce's music next year. The Soul Prototype covers a lot of ground in its 19 enjoyable minutes. The digital album features tracks by two artists who are familiar to me. I reviewed the work by LaSonya Gunter and Steve Wallace last year, and both contributed nice tracks to The Soul Prototype.

I reviewed the work by LaSonya Gunter and Steve Wallace last year, and both contributed nice tracks to The Soul Prototype. Wallace's track "Escalators," features his trademark hip-hop influenced urban soul and uplifting message that made Urban Soul one of the better CDs of last year. Gunter's "Smile" is a radio friendly song in which she states her case that she is the one who can make the object of her desire happy.

Pryce and his collaborators have raised the expectation level with The Soul Prototype EP. Music fans who hear this will be waiting to see if Pryce's first full project can match the quality of this EP. In the interim, Pryce accomplished his mission of whetting musical appetites with some smooth indie soul and hip hop.
