(March 29, 2023) Music enthusiasts are familiar with the ultimate vote of confidence called the ‘it’ factor.  Whether it’s the emotional climax or the lengthy high note where audiences scream back in adoration, those attributes are where many vocalists find their happy artistic zone.  Then there is Kea, who touches listeners with a composed vocal confidence integrating jazz phrasing that carries her storylines without reaching for the ‘it’ factor.

Since Kea’s 2017 debut “I Love You,” SoulTracks has shown lots of love for this Pittsburgh, PA singer/songwriter.  One of KEA’s treasured moments was the impressive reconstruction of Smokey Robinson’s “Being With You,” a daunting task considering Robinson’s iconic career.  And her songwriting unapologetically addresses several social issues such as “Holla If You Hear Me.”

Kea sets the stage for our latest First Listen experience entitled “We Made It Thru,” a song of navigating our mental state through the pressures of social media and life’s uncertainties.  The soft funky backdrop courtesy of Bread and Butter Productions along with David Delhomme and Mark Bowers aligns with Kea’s gentle alto sweeps.

Her faith also comes to the core as the lyrics speak to portions of Matthew 24. Extra thanks to Lem Springsteen who helped co-write these pearls of wisdom on “We Made It Thru” and how Kea renders the storyline with extraordinary calmness.  Listen up!
