La. Music Lovr. Looking Back
Louisiana Music... - April 7th, 2009
La. Music Lovr.
Looking Back at the 90's it is hard to decide what the best recordings are because the harsh reality of it all is that artists released fewer titles than in the 60's, 70's or 80's. Even great artists like Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston and Anita Baker only released two or three recordings the whole decade. With that said, here are some careful suggestions (big sigh here!!!!):
Luther Vandross -- Power of Love
Gerald Levert -- Groove On
Jodeci -- Forever My Lady
Mariah Carey -- Mariah Carey
Mary J. Blige -- My Life
Whitney Houston -- My Love is Your Love
Anita Baker -- Compositions
M C Hammer -- Please Hammer, Don't Hurt 'Em
Regina Belle -- Passion
Miki Howard -- Femme Fatale
Boyz II Men -- Cooleyhighharmony
Patti LaBelle -- Burnin'
Prince -- Diamaond and Pearls
Lisa Fischer -- So Intense
Janet Jackson -- janet.
Lauryn Hill -- The Miseducation of
The Fugees -- The Score
TLC -- CrazySexyCool
En Vogue -- Born to Sing
and of course,
R. Kelly -- 12 Play.
Man, this decade was a hard one to judge -- lotsa good stuff, just not an abundance of it!!

Najee - April 9th, 2009
I agree, the '90s (especially the latter half) was not quite as good as the '80s and definitely not as good as the '70s. Any way, here are the more obvious choices:
* Mary J. Blige: What's the 411? and My Life
* Janet Jackson: janet.
* Lauryn Hill: The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill
* Boyz II Men: Cooleyhighharmony and II
* Jodeci: Forever My Lady and Diary of a Mad Band
* R. Kelly: 12 Play and R.
* D'Angelo: Brown Sugar
* Aaliyah: One in a Million
* EnVogue: Born to Sing and Funky Divas
* Toni Braxton: self-titled debut and Secrets
* Bell Biv DeVoe: Poison
* Johnny Gill: self-titled album
* TLC: Oooooohhh! On the TLC Tip and CrazySexyCool
* GUY: The Future
* Tony Toni Tone: The Revival, Sons of Soul
* Maxwell: Maxwell's Urban Hang Suite
* Eryka Badu: Baduizm
* Usher: My Way
Personally, I see this as a battle between "12 Play," "Brown Sugar," "My Life" and "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill" as the top album of the '90s.
