December  13, 2021 — Welcome to Another Groove, our series dedicated to new music that is neither pure soul nor R&B but which has elements of those genres and may please your ears. This week we feature the track “Riverfront” by Leo Nocentelli.

Leo is a singer, songwriter and guitarist from New Orleans who was a founding member of The Meters, a renowned funk band that emerged in the late 60’s. In 1971, inspired by James Taylor’s debut, Leo laid down 9 acoustic guitar-driven tracks for a solo album, Another Side, that rather remarkably sat unreleased until the master tapes were re-discovered earlier this year. The soundscape is a wonderful, warm mix of spare funk, soul and country, very much a roots record of its time. Our featured track is a classic “workingman’s blues” with some added Creole flavor. Enjoy!
