First Listen: BeBe Winans wants to be "Free Free"

    (September 6, 2019) Since his glorious partnership with sister CeCe Winans that generated many urban gospel hits like “Heaven” and “I’ll Take You There,” BeBe Winans’s solo spotlight has shone quite brightly, including his autographical stage production, Born for This: My Life in Music.  And unquestionably, BeBe has embraced life by the musical horns with piercing gospel messages like “In Harm’s Way,” along with inspirational anthems and antidotes, including a First Listen feature in 2018, “Laughter is Like a Good Medicine.” In the meantime, after a long season surrounding the popular stage production Born for This, BeBe finally releases his first CD in seven years.

    From the Malaco/Regimen Records project, Need You, that also features “Laughter,” our newest First Listen focus, “Free Free,” provides words of encouragement to free ourselves from the personal problems that can bind people: “Let love break these shackles.”  While BeBe’s warm voice is convicting, the adequate futuristic soundtrack with brass and drum loops occasionally overrides the intended message.  But despite that obstacle on “Free Free,” it is always a joyful moment when BeBe opens his mouth in delivering his lifelong gift of music to the world.
