(July 4, 2016) The buzz remains high after Bilal’s scintillating performance of “The Beautiful Ones” at BET awards. The Philadelphian inhabited the vocals, personality and stage presence of The Purple One with a display that saw him take his vocals from the heights to the depths work every inch of the stage and down to the floor. The performance was revealing but not a revelation because Bilal has been a known quantity since he dropped First Born Second through his work on Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp A Butterfly, as well as his stunning rendition of “Where Do We Go From Here,” on Jeff Bradshaw’s live album, Home.

Bilal is the definition of relevant. And now Bilal moves from memory lane to retro lane with his latest, “I Really Don’t Care.” This is an original that takes us back to the days of lounge singers belting out tunes while standing next to – or playing – piano. So check it out and try to resist the urge of dropping a dollar in the fish bowl because this is just a recording and the fish bowl is filled with water – and fish.
