(June 17, 2020) We’ve been following the growth of the incredible soul music community in Portland, Oregon for several years. And right in the heart of Rip City’s ascent has been singer, songwriter and keyboardist Jarrod Lawson. He has proven himself to be a true descendent of the great singer songwriters that emerged a generation ago, from Donny Hathaway to Stevie Wonder.

Jarrod has just released a new single that addresses the racial tensions that have come to the forefront over the past few weeks, since the killing of George Floyd (“Innocent blood soaks the ground / Yet another man whose hands were bound”). “Embrace What We Are” is a song of both acceptance and embracing our differences, and truly seeing each other as brothers and sisters.

This positive message is wrapped around jazzy swirls, with Lawson’s always on point vocals up front. It simply sounds great, and is a message we can all enjoy hearing.
