Lamone’s new song “Strive” is a song of encouragement. And encouragement is something that we all need, even if we think that we don’t. From an arrangement standpoint, Lamone endows “Strive” with a percussion martial groove that helps drive home the message that remaining encouraged and positive is a daily struggle against the many obstacles that conspire to make a person doubt their mission decide to give up.

That percussive, marching rhythm sets the foundation for a song that includes jazz influenced improvisation on the saxophone, courtesy of William Prince, along with gospel and jazz influences on the piano. Meanwhile, Lamone’s vocal moves easily from husky baritone to buttery falsetto, delivering a message of moving forward against the storms of adversity and uncertainty. The message in this anthem of perseverance is just that – persevere.
