(January 27, 2018) We recently discovered the outsized Ottawa, Canada-based band, The Commotions. Eleven members strong – including a five piece horn section – they are all about providing the kind of full and funky sound that you rarely hear these days.

The band (and 15 more of their friends) have put together a brand new album, Volume II, that captures that big sound in a series of songs that recall classic tunes from Motown to Stax, but which are both original and extremely fun.

Music director Brian Asselin explains, “I feel like soul music is the music of the people. If you look at all the iconic soul performers like Marvin Gaye or even the Temptations or the Supremes, they were documenting what was happening in the world. Soul music spoke to that. We are trying to do that today.”

The group’s newest single certainly succeeds in that regard. Singer Rebecca Noelle struts her stuff with the band on the video for “Bad Girl,” our newest SoulTracks First Listen.
