(July 16, 2023) You can learn a lot about an artist through the performers that influence them. Latasha Lee counts Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Sam Cooke, and Otis Redding as influences. There are likely others, and some unmentioned influences might be contemporary singers. However, listening to the music that Lee has released, it is clear that she feels strongly about and is inspired by classic soul music, the artists who made it, the messages delivered in those songs and the way those messages are delivered.

A wonderful vocalist whose engaging persona comes through in her live performances and the videos that she releases, Lee has built a loyal following with original songs where she is backed by a band that sounds like it could have been employed at Atlantic or Stax in the 1960s. Lee stays true to that sound on her latest single, “We Got a Good Thing.”

The tune is a sensual expression of appreciation that finds Lee letting her man know that their relationship is in a very good place. Her vocals put the listeners in mind the lead singers from those classic 1960s era girl groups, so the drums, the classic riffs on the guitar, electric organ and the tight horn section that seem to be saying amen to this musical statement of contentment will keep the listeners there. The accompanying video is proof that the guy has a lot to be grateful for as well. Check out “We Got a Good Thing” here.
