October 21, 2019 – As a live vocalist, there’s no hiding when your sole accompaniment is a keyboard player. It’s sink or swim, for all to witness, and even our most popular singers sometimes wilt under the pressure. But not the gifted Lucky Daye, who’s like Michael Jordan calling for the ball with 2 seconds left in the game and the Bulls down by 1: Brash, single-minded and knowing oh so well that he can and will deliver.

We feature here Daye’s recent live performance of the ballad “Misunderstood” off his debut album, Painted.  To my ear, it’s the best song on one of the top 5 albums of 2019, and Daye gives an arresting performance. His singing gracefully weaves threads of hip-hop swagger into a sensitive R&B tapestry, and the audience is obviously moved by the results.  Enjoy.
