The first thought that came to mind upon receiving The Essential John P. Kee is how do you leave off "Never Shall Forget?" That is one in a handful in the John P. Kee catalogue that is sure to make you stop what you are doing and commence to getting your "praise on!" That's okay because on this two-disc compilation of hits, the soulful and husky sounds of the celebrated and revered "Prince of Gospel" is represented to the fullest along with contributions from the New Life Community Choir.

The Essential John P. Kee is a journey into the musical testament of one of the most influential and well known gospel artists today. Since stepping onto the scene in 1987 with his debut solo album Yes Lord, Kee has made his mark by mixing traditional gospel with modern contemporary gospel. "Wash Me," the first track from Disc One, is the perfect blending of his talents along with the New Life Community Choir and their feel-good vibes. "My Mind Is Made Up" actually makes up for the omission of "Never Shall Forget" and "Show Up" is Kee at his very best. Disc Two opens with "Strength" and "It Will Be Alright" will work you into a frenzy as it reminds you why this gentleman is an heir to gospel great Rev. James Cleveland. "Jesus Is Real," "Wait On Him," "Stand," and "Mighty God" are other gems that shine on this collection.

Kee is now pastor of the New Life Fellowship Center Church in Charlotte, North Carolina and has cut back on his musical output. However, The Essential John P. Kee should satisfy his fans as they wait for him to hopefully return with new music.
