See 50 Hot Soul Music Releases coming in 2019

Want to know what soul music albums are coming out in the next few months? We've got you covered with our "Upcoming Releases" schedule.

The beginning of the year is sometimes a slow time for new music releases, but early 2019 is shaping up to be active for soul music artists – both longtime favorites and up and comers.

Some Classic Soul warriors will be back with new music in the next few months. The O’Jays and Chaka Khan are following up their recent hits “Above The Law” and "Like Sugar" with new albums, and Mavis Staples will be strutting her stuff with a new LIVE album. We’ll also be looking for new releases from former Funk Brother Dennis Coffey, Skyy and Brass Construction leader Randy Muller, and a much anticipated posthumous release from Hall of Famer Leon Ware.

Indie Soul continues its ascent, and some of its most recognized names will be back with new music. Cool Million will be “Stronger” this Spring, while Candace Bellamy follows her Christmas album with another showcase for her deep tones. Singer extraordinaire ABIAH plans a vocal tribute to Madonna, U-Nam will release a disc of his funky guitar stylings, Orgone will give their hungry fans a new one, Bashiri Asad will bring along his new band for a ride, and Vintage Trouble will give us another EP to follow last year's winner.

Gospel will also be well represented, as Carvin Winans issues his first album apart from his famous brothers, Sensere polishes their smooth harmonies on a new disc, and we get to hear new music from His Devoted.

For fans of the Jazzier Side  of soul, there are new discs coming from Norman Brown, Jazz Funk Soul, Keiko Matsui, Smooth Jazz Alley, Marqueal Jordan and Jason Miles, among others.

Finally, lots of other hot emerging artists will be delivering new ones, including Emily King, Durand Jones & The Indications, Aaron Abernathy and much talked-about singer Maverick Sabre.

We also have some early indications of highly anticipated albums coming later in the year, but with no release dates set, from artists such as Maxwell, Glenn Jones, Brandy, Wayne Brady and more.

Here’s our full list, which we’ll continue to update. Know any others? Pass them on!
