Upcoming Soul Music Releases

Summer is coming! The weather is warming up and, after a chill in new music brought on by the coronavirus pandemic, the soul music releases are flowing again, with a bunch of new full lengthers from both old favorites and new ones.

Classic Soul Stars

We are excited with the advance music we’ve heard from classic soul stars, and we think their fans are going to dig it too. Brian McKnight returns in June with his 20th album, and it may be his best in a decade. And former Isley Brothers member Chris Jasper issues his first album of covers – including new versions of his classic Isleys compositions.

Also look for a new album by the ubiquitous John Legend, a personal, stripped down collection by Ceelo Green, a much awaited disc from Bettye LaVette, and new discs from Avant, Ledisi, Billy Ocean, Wendy Moten, Maceo Parker, Alyson Williams and Shaun Escoffery, and the first release in a decade from Donnie.

The Jazzier Side

Gregory Porter has been giving us tastes of his upcoming disc, All Rise, and we are all in on it. But other jazzy faves will be coming too, including George Benson’s sequel to his classic Weekend In L.A. (“Weekend In London”). Also on deck are new ones from Bluey of Incognito, Boney James, Norman Brown, Chris “Big Dog” Davis, Kim Waters, Euge Groove, Norah Jones, Chick Corea and Johnny Britt.

Indie Soul Stars

Lovers of independent soul will also have a season of joy, with brand new releases from Geno Young, Ingram Street, Ascendant, Lorenzo Owens and Keyna.

Up and Comers

And don’t forget the younger artists who have been storming internet radio with fantastic music for the past handful of years. Look for releases from Lianne La Havas, Nyah Grace, Chloe x Halle, Citrus Sun, and Joslyn & The Sweet Compression.

All in all, it looks to be a fantastic Summer of music. Check out our full list below and support soul music!
