This week we feature the song “Come To Your Senses” performed by Alexandra Shipp and Vanessa Hudgens for the film “tick, tick…BOOM!” directed by Lin-Manuel Miranda.
My brother-in-law, often a font of music wisdom, recently said that “all Lin-Manuel touches turns to gold.” This film, and especially the music performances that Miranda teased out of the actors, is a case in point. The highlight is when Shipp steps out to lead off our featured song, followed ably by Hudgens, who rightly also has other lead vocals in the film. Hudgens’s skills in this genre have been well known since her appearance in High School Musical, but Shipp is lesser known and her gifts are a revelation. There is considerable soul, power and grace here not to be missed. Enjoy.
