December  20, 2021 — Welcome back to Another Groove, our series dedicated to new music that is neither pure soul nor R&B but which has elements of those genres and may please your ears. This week we feature the track “When We Move” by Common, featuring Black Thought and Seun Kuti.

Common needs little introduction. A renowned Grammy-award winning songwriter, actor and spoken-word artist, he has been at the forefront of hip hop music and culture since the 1990’s. Black Thought has also been a leading light in hip hop from his perch as the lead MC of The Roots, and Kuti is a prominent Nigerian saxophonist and singer.

Our featured track, which is from Common’s recently-released album A Beautiful Revolution Pt. 2, is absolute fire. It leaps out of the gate like an anxious stallion and gallops forward amid stuttering Afrobeat rhythms and delightful, Memphis R&B-style horns. The music video is equally captivating. You’ll hit repeat on this one, I promise. Enjoy!
