Warner Brothers signed Sherrick and it was as a solo artist that he scored hits on his debut album with 1987’s "Just Call" and, to a lesser extent, "Let's Be Lovers." What appeared to be the beginning of a promising career never materialized due to Sherrick's cocaine addiction, which essentially torpedoed the recording of his second album and froze his career for the next decade. A promising attempted comeback in the late 90s -- with Sherrick proclaiming he was "drug free" - came to a sad ending when he died suddenly on January 22, 1999 at the shockingly young age of 41.
We always wondered what could have come of the career of this artist who seemed to have the whole package, but we are still grooving to “Call Me” decades after its release.
