Singing has been as natural for Doreen Vail as breathing.  Her powerful vocals have been compared to those of Yolanda Adams, Jill Scott, and even Barbara Streisand.  However, most people agree that she has a unique style that is all her own.  Doreen is able to rip through a traditional gospel hymn, soar through a love ballad, and flow into a jazzy tune, all while taking her listeners on an inspirational journey that keeps them captivated until her final note is sung.  Her style can be described as  “gospirationary”, a unique blend of gospel, spiritual, inspirational, and contemporary melodies.  Doreen is a 2009 Stellar Award nominee for Contemporary Female Artist Of The Year for her sophomore project entitled “Odyssey”.  She is also a 2009 WAMMIE nominee for the same CD.  Her first CD, “Reflections of a Yielded Vessel”, opened international doors through worldwide television exposure and travel to Africa.  Doreen sees her music as not just a collection of songs but also as a concept that if taken in its entirety will impact and change lives.  Doreen realizes that her greatest assets are in her voice and in her heart.  When connected, no matter what the platform, God uses her  to impact lives. In 2006, Doreen was also afforded the opportunity to co-produce the season four theme song “Way Down in the Hole” for the highly-acclaimed HBO series “The Wire”. Doreen has sung and appeared on a wide variety of venues including TBN, appearing with her friend Alvin Slaughter, and a movie entitled, “Guilty By Association” starring Morgan Freeman.  She has shared platforms with artists ranging from CeCe Winans, Donnie McClurkin, Yolanda Adams, and Kirk Franklin to Frankie Beverly and Maze to Andy Williams.  The list of churches, festivals, and conferences at which she has shared the stage with many prominent artists are too numerous to name.  However, if you were to ask Doreen where the greatest places are that she has ever sung, she would say the prison in NC, the nursing homes, hospitals at patients’ bedsides, homeless shelters, women’s shelters, camps for underprivileged children, and in the bush areas of Zimbabwe, Africa.  She lives her life to fulfill the quote, “You make a living from what you get and a life from what you give.”
