Summer music always brings with it the most pleasant offerings, many of which are unexpected. Such is the case with Supercharged, the latest release from UK funk band, Down To The Bone. Regardless of your current surroundings, this collection of upbeat, funky blends leave you with images of cooling out on a beach somewhere in the tropics with the sun, sand and surf blanketing you. In a musical era where it has become the norm to utilize electronics to mimic organic instruments with lower quality, the musicianship and instrumentation of Down To The Bone is refreshing and always rejuvenating. Their ability to bring together an intensified horn section on this project, in addition to the other pieces that were already in place, makes this stellar group of musicians complement each other beautifully and creates a dynamite sound.

Song titles like "Greedy Fingers," "Cosmic Fuzz," and "Funkin' Around" give away the band's mission to saturate its listeners' souls with great funky music. And special guest appearances by Hil St. Soul, Corrina Greyson and especially the legendary Roy Ayers make Supercharged an even more valuable musical treasure. On "Smile to Shine," Hil St. Soul passionately encourages listeners with her beautiful vocals to chase our blues away by enjoying the simple things that life offers us. Then clear the dance floor! "Electric Vibes" on which Ayers is a key figure, grooves you in such a way that your body will not permit you to be still. The collaboration is simply superb, and leaves the hope that Ayers will collaborate with this group on future projects.

With Supercharged¸ Down To The Bone and their guests have created the quintessential Summer album. Both fun and funky, it is a collection that delivers the goods in an organic, beautifully arranged way that should make old schoolers beam and new schoolers take notice. Highly recommended
