(April 6, 2023) When SoulTracks first introduced Alex Harris three years ago, readers may have noticed the essence of Sam Cooke flowing through his First Listen bow, "Falling for You."  So it was really is no surprise that the Georgia -born, Tampa based singer/songwriter cites Cooke as one of his major inspirations, along with such luminaries as Al Green and Aretha Franklin.  Encouraged by his father, Harris developed lead vocal skills with his family vocal band of six brothers.

On his 2020 debut EP, Frequency, and several singles from Cross the Line Music, Harris effortlessly mixes classic soul nuances, touches of gospel and occasional lush adult contemporary R&B soundtracks, while connecting fervently to his storylines.  Away from the studio, Harris has opened for Green, Franklin and others, and performed for various dignitaries in the U.S., Bermuda, and Ireland.

From the upcoming E.P., Between the Cracklin’, Vol. 1, Harris’s sophomore First Listen, "Lose My Religion" once again evokes memories of Cooke's earthy vocal passion, aided by a sixties soul arrangement with organ sweeps, brass accents and tight background vocalists.  But what makes "Lose My Religion" soar is Harris' investment to his emotions - guiding listeners thru the depths of being lost in romantic love.  And the exhilarating climax drops a ‘call and response’ moment between the vocals and the musicians. Through the years of singing with family and in a fruitful solo career, Harris’s respect for his soul music elders continues to pay off.  Take a listen!
