(May 13, 2023) Back in March of this year, we let you know that Alexander O’Neal had announced his farewell world tour “Time to Say Goodbye,” which he will embark on from September 2023 to mid-2024. Although Alex’s touring days will be coming to an end, we expressed hope that his recording career was not over.
Thankfully it is not, as his new 4-song EP proves. It’s called Is This Seat Taken, and the title track is our latest First Listen. This slow jam finds Alex doing what an “All True Man” is often expected to do regarding a lady he’s attracted to – respectfully state his intentions to get to know her and make her feel special. And of course, as the song title suggests, Alex inquires if the seat next to this lady is taken, in hopes that the answer is no so he can have her company all to himself. Alex presents himself as the perfect gentleman, just as he did in his classic songs from the 80’s and 90's.

Alex’s team describes “Is This Seat Taken” as a song that 'pays homage to the legendary singer’s soul roots while incorporating elements that have inspired him.' His soul roots are definitely on full display, resembling the love songs that Alex is best known for. So this tune is new yet familiar, modern yet nostalgic.
