World Premiere Video: Chic's Alfa Anderson Goes Crazy “When Luther Sings”

(June 8, 2017) Alfa Anderson’s sultry pipes graced scores of much-loved R&B and pop albums throughout the 1980s, although the public at large may not instantly recognize her by name. The classy vocalist was an integral part of prime Chic LP’s, and thereafter contributed to sessions for the likes of Diana Ross, Teddy Pendergrass, and Mick Jagger. She can also be heard on essential Luther Vandross sets such as The Night I Fell in Love and Give Me the Reason, which makes her newest solo offering particularly special.

On the loving “When Luther Sings,” Anderson pays a musical and personal tribute to the man who “drives me crazy…when [he] sings, ‘It’s so amazing to be loved,” and who “showed me what to do to stand out in a crowd.” The hook-filled throwback groove finds her effortlessly conveying being “mesmerized” as she injects her rich and velvety tones into a clap-along-style chorus and thoughtful verses. Backed by punchy beats, Chic-esque guitar licks, and full-bodied keyboard work,” she evokes the essence of Vandross classics like “The Glow of Love” and “Never Too Much.” The feeling is at once nostalgic and modern, providing a summery vibe that is sure to make listeners groove both in the car and on the dance floor.

"When Luther Sings" is the first single from the upcoming album, Music From My Heart, which will be released on July 7. That same night, Alfa will have a CD release party at Joe's Pub in New York.
