Allan Harris has gained a well-deserved reputation over the past 20 years in jazz circles. The Brooklyn-born, Harlem-based singer has shown his versatility over the years, winning several awards and amassing a sizable following, not just in his native New York, but also around the jazz world.

For his latest album, Harris has chosen as his topic the music of legendary 20th century lyricist and singer, Eddie Jefferson – perhaps best known for his oft-recorded classic, “Moody’s Mood for Love.”

And Harris has dug deep into the Jefferson catalog to find songs that meant something to him. The album is receiving rave reviews, and we’re proud to present a taste of it in our latest First Listen, the lead song from the disc, “So What.” The song finds Harris scatting over a cool jazz trio (Eric Reed on piano; George DeLancey on bass and Willie Jones III on drums).
