(October 21, 2023) Great things can spring from negative situations. For Ania Garvey, the great thing was her family's recognition of her talent. The negative situation it sprang from was Hurricane Katrina. In 2005 when the devastating storm was about to make landfall, Ania and her family were sheltering in place in Miami, Florida, singing Bob Marley songs. During that period, the Garvey family realized the uniqueness of Ania's voice.
That set things in motion for Ania's music career, which the late Donna Summer encouraged her to pursue. Since her performing debut, Ania – a native of the Bahamas – has made a name for herself in England, receiving honorary titles like the “UK’s Queen of Disco and Soul” and “UK’s Best Female Soulful Voice.” She has released several chart-topping singles and showcased her versatile talent at different venues in the Southern United States and in the UK, such as Caister Soul Weekender, which was the longest running SoulFest in the UK.
Although Ania is known for her great dance tunes, she also knows how to slow things down. Her latest single, “Beautiful Union,” is proof of that. As hinted by the title, the song is about a marital union, so it's perfect for a wedding. Sung from the bride's perspective, the lyrics reflect the pure joy she feels upon reaching her special day. When writing this song, Ania could draw on her own experience because she got married in 2020 to popular Radio Presenter and DJ, Lee Wells. While listening to this tender ballad, you can envision a bride walking down the aisle to meet her Prince Charming.
