World Premiere: AWB gives new life to classic song of peace

(May 18, 2017) Longtime SoulTrackers know that two of our favorite all-time acts are Average White Band and The Isley Brothers. So what happens when the former gives a new take on a classic song from the latter, and has the Hall of Famer on board? Well, you get AWB's cool new version of "Harvest for the World," produced by the legendary Isley Brothers keyboardist and songwriter, Chris Jasper.

The song "Harvest for the World" is now considered an R&B classic, and a song that has proven timeless in its message of peace during a time of division. The song has never seemed more appropriate than it does in 2017. And the new version gives the song a different vibe: it is a mellower, almost jazzy take that gives even more focus on the chilling lyrics.

Why did AWB decide to record this now? Alan Gorrie of the band tells us, "We thought this a timely record to make, as it addresses inequality, hunger, peace, and the need for tolerance and respect among us all, in a non - preachy way. It is also, coincidentally, a beautiful song and we thought the only way to give it the remake it required was to get Chris Jasper, the writer, on board to produce this new version and to give it an amalgam of AWB and The Isleys' signature sounds."

Chris Jasper was honored to be involved, and told us, "Ernie Isley and I wrote the original 'Harvest For the World' in 1976. I enjoyed producing and arranging this new version for AWB and it turned out great...the message is still relevant today!"

The song will be released on May 25, but we're proud to present the World Premiere today! Check out "Harvest For The World" and share with your friends.
