(June 15, 2021) On “He Can’t Love You,” Bey Bright puts his unique musical spin on the age-old story of man trying to convince a woman from his not too distant past that he’s changed and that he’s better than the man she is with. Bright’s take merges modern elements like interspersing his smooth tenor with autotune, and the use of the ubiquitous trap inspired drums with a funky and percolating bass line to create a track that will hit for the steppers crowd -- but has enough contemporary elements to appeal to the younger folks who might lean toward EDM.

Those elements serve as the foundation for Bright to put his silky vocal to a tune that falls squarely in the R&B sub-genre called ‘begging.’ A singer’s got to wear his heart on his sleeve on these tunes, and Bright throws everything into the mix. His vocal is a mixture of bravado, vulnerability, recognition that he messed up, and an appeal for a second chance. The lyrics recall the good times and the knowledge that things haven’t nearly been as good since the lady made her exit. Bright admits the error of his ways while introducing that kernel of doubt that she truly believes it’s over. Check out “He Can’t Love You” here.
