(July 9, 2023) Over the past two decades, there have been a number of fantastic collections showcasing what is going on in the world of independent soul, mostly from European labels such as Expansion and Dome Records. But it is especially inspiring when indie artists come together to create their own collective projects. Such is the case with the upcoming collective called The Virgo Lounge, featuring Gwendolyn Collins, Bléz, Iisma, Mycah Chevalier, Alisha Glover and David Hammett, and their project, Mellifluous Vibe. The disc brings these talents together in part as a tribute to the memory of producer and keyboardist Dawoud Said, who had worked with all of the members over the years.
The first single from the upcoming project is from longtime SoulTracks fave Bléz. Her “Certified Lova” is a tasty adult soul midtempo about a woman whose lover is so good that it makes her “feel like I’m floating on Cloud 9.”

As usual, Bléz’s powerful vocals take command, leading a call-and-response with her background singers on top of the steady groove of a soundtrack that has more than a touch of jazz elements to it.
