(November 12, 2020) We’ve been singing the praises of Portland, Oregon for about a half dozen years now, as that Western town has established itself in soul circles with a new generation of independent stars making some of the best music around. For us, it all came together a few years ago with the compilation album, Bespeak Love, which highlighted the talented foundation of Rip City.
One of the featured artists on that album was producer and keyboardist Chris Turner, who has now ascended as a recording performer with his debut album, Love & Legacy. Turner shows himself to be a young artist who has absorbed the lessons of such musical greats as George Duke and Ramsey Lewis, as he blends R&B and jazzy elements into a mixture that should hit adult soul audiences just right.
“Reckless Love” is a lush ballad featuring vocalist Ayana George, that Chris says is “a song about vulnerability; being captured so deeply by someone.” Well, it certainly captured us with its nighttime vibe and strong musicianship behind Ms. George’s sweet vocals.
