(January 21, 2023) When you think of Boston, you hardly think of soul music. Sure, it’s the birthplace of New Edition, New Kids on the Block and Donna Summer, but it doesn’t pull on the heart strings like Detroit, Memphis or nearby Philly. (January 21, 2023) When you think of Boston, you hardly think of soul music. Sure, it’s the birthplace of New Edition, New Kids on the Block and Donna Summer, but it doesn’t pull on the heart strings like Detroit, Memphis or nearby Philly. But emerging R&B singer-songwriter Chris Walton is hoping to change that narrative.

On “Cravin’,” his latest single taken from his debut LP Ruminating Thoughts, Walton uses a laidback Al Green-esque rhythm marinated in sultry guitar strings and the grace of John Mayer’s “Gravity." While crooning charmy sweet nothings (“I got a fever of one-hundred and two/So I called my doctor, he prescribed me you”), Walton’s smooth vocal execution walks the lines of PJ Morton and Daniel Caesar.

This mellow sun-kissed love ballad is sure to bless the ears of devout soul, and bound to become a staple for modern R&B listeners. SoulTrackers, let us know if you’re “cravin’” the track.
