(March 12, 2021) There are some artists who have been an essential part of SoulTracks since the beginning of our journey, and Conya Doss is one of them. The SoulTracks Readers' Choice winner has been remarkable in the steady, regular contributions she has made to the indie soul world, always providing music that is both thoughtful and infectious. And that's why each release by her is still an event, 19 years after she broke out with A Poem For Miss Doss.
We're excited that Conya will be back with a full album (Through Rose Colored Glasses) later this year, and if the initial single is any indication, it is going to be another cherished collection for her fans. "Wishful Thinking" tells the story of a woman who is at a crossroads in a relationship, and pushing her man to be willing to fight for the gold ring of a forever love. Both the steady groove and the nice vocal arrangements provide a nice backdrop for Conya's familiar song stylings, and move the song to earworm territory.
Even among the dozens of memorable songs that Conya has issued, this one feels special even upon first listening. One of those where all the pieces have come together to create an adult soul gem from the jump.
