We've been writing about singer and songwriter Bobby Caldwell since day one on SoulTracks, and his classic song "What You Won't Do For Love," is, in our view, one of the greatest R&B songs ever. So we're always paying attention to Bobby's work, even when they are a bit of a surprise. We still don't know how surprised we'll be by Bobby's upcoming project, but his newest single does raise an eyebrow or two. The newest single from the upcoming album is a duet with another soul music legend, Deniece Williams, that nicely highlights the two great singers. And all was going so nicely, too, until the perfunctory rap interlude from Eric Biddines. We know that you have to have a rap guest to get airplay on radio these days, but the addition subtracts way more than it adds on this otherwise attractive midtempo. It's the first time we've heard the legendary Mr. Caldwell with a rap guest, and hope it isn't repeated.
