(October 5, 2023) Back in 2018, soul singer Cornell CC Carter won ‘New Artist of the Year’ at our SoulTracks Readers' Choice Awards. The San Francisco native has gained an international audience and has shared the stage with legends like Sly and the Family Stone, Ray Charles, and the Godfather James Brown.

CC views soul music as “the food of life,” and over the years we have presented many of his musical dishes.  Earlier this year, we reviewed CC’s latest song called “It’s So Nice” that went to #1 on the Official Indie R&B Chart this summer. Now, CC is back with another tasty tune called “I’d Rather Dance with You.”  It was written by CC and his longtime friend, Grammy-winning producer Narada Michael Walden, who’s worked with a number of artists such as Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, and The Temptations.

This isn’t the first time that CC and Narada have worked together but the two enjoyed the experience.  CC said they are “excited to share our talents and love for real music together on this track.” “I’d Rather Dance with You” has an infectious groove with a familiar theme: a man setting his sights on taking a beautiful woman to the dance floor, hoping to stay in her world:

When I saw you standing there looking fine
With the way you move is blowing my mind…
Baby, you know, I’d rather dance with you
Baby, just let me have a chance with you

“I’d Rather Dance with You” isn’t a one-style-fits-all song. There are at least three different versions of it – soul, house, and club mixes.  Today, we’re serving up the ‘radio soul’ version.  Enjoy, and head on out to the dance floor!
